L’awards season è iniziata ufficialmente tecon i Golden Globes 2025, che si sono svolti in diretta da Los Angeles con la conduzione della comica Nikki Glaser. A differenza di altri anni, sul fronte dei film, nessun titolo si è imposto come chiaro front runner (solitamente questi premi assegnati dalla stampa estera a Hollywood sono un’anticamera abbastanza netta degli Oscar a venire): tra i lungometraggi premiati vediamo infatti The Brutalist come film drammatico (che ha vinto anche per la miglior regia e miglior attore Adrien Brody), Emilia Pérez nella categoria delle commedie e musical (miglior film internazionale, battendo il nostro Vermiglio), mentre Wicked ha sbaragliato la concorrenza nel premio del box office. Anche le categorie attoriali si sono distribuite equamente, con riconoscimenti tra gli altri a Demi Moore per The Substance, Fernanda Torres per I’m Still Here e Sebastian Stan per A Different Man.
Più netta, invece, la distribuzione delle statuette sul fronte delle serie tv: Shōgun ha sbaragliato la concorrenza per quanto riguarda le produzioni drammatiche, con diversi premi assegnati anche al proprio cast; tra le serie comiche, invece, continua il dominio di Hacks, che ha vinto come miglior serie comedy e anche per l’attrice protagonista Jean Smart, mentre il miglior attore in una serie comica è andato a Jeremy Allen White di The Bear (titolo stranamente collocato in questa categoria e non tra i drama). Successo anche per Baby Reindeer, miglior miniserie e miglior attrice a Jessica Gunning. Tra le miniserie vincono anche Jodie Foster per True Detective: Night Country e Colin Farrell per The Penguin.
